Craig Colorusso
This exhibition sits at the intersection of sound, light, and space through sculpture. Working with these concepts since 2000, Colorusso’s installations consist of wood, metal, fabric, and electronics. Two works, CUBEMUSIC and AWASH, will be on display in our galleries. A third piece, Sun Boxes, will be exhibited outdoors around Centenary’s campus.
CUBEMUSIC consists of six 4’ aluminum cubes with geometric cutout shapes, each containing three light sources that glow and decay at different intervals, casting shadows within space. Also from each CUBE, four-note guitar chords swell in volume. As the room resonates with low notes, crisp shadows slowly fade into each other over time.
AWASH is a digital piece that allows participants to create a unique experience. Adding to the low hum of the room, visitors are invited to play prerecorded tracks at varying intervals. AWASH will work with 3 or 4 people, but we think it works best with 12 or more.
Sun Boxes is comprised of twenty speakers that operate independently, each powered by the sun via solar panels and playing a guitar note that collectively makes a Bb chord, overlapping and looping to slowly evolve over time.
