Featuring works by the Shreveport Art Club
The Shreveport Art Club was founded in 1921 by several important and nationally known artists for the purpose of holding art classes. The members worked together once a week with a paid teacher. The first president was the late Amos Lee Armstrong. Through the early years the members increased in numbers, had several different teachers, and brought numerous exhibitors from out of town, as well as sponsored local exhibitions. Art lectures and gallery talks were held for the art education of the public.
The club incorporated and became a nonprofit in 1956. The cultural life of the City of Shreveport has benefited from the long years of dedicated efforts of the artists. The same fundamental goals of our founders are being carried on today by the club’s members, and they look forward to many more years of furthering art in the City of Shreveport for the enjoyment of all.
All pieces in this exhibition are original works completed within two years of the exhibition and not previously exhibited in the Shreveport-Bossier area.
