Ida Bell’s House, at the Lynn Farms Headquarters between Gilliam and Belcher, has become something of a local landmark. Travelers on LA 3049 often find themselves intrigued by its historic style of a bygone era and the imagined stories it must contain. Over the years, Ida Bell’s House has inspired numerous artists, including folk artist M.C. “5 Cent” Jones, who frequently depicted such homes in his paintings of rural life.
In an acknowledgement of this recognition, the Ross Lynn Charitable Foundation curated an intimate show of works by regionally connected artists to honor the landmark as well as educate the public about the structure as a historic tenant’s house that is named for its most notable resident Ida Bell Carroll, the final person to occupy the house.
Ida Bell’s House initially debuted during the 2024 Sunflower Trail & Festival, just steps from the house itself inside of the Lynn Farms Commissary where tenants once shopped for everyday necessities. The exhibit honors the essence of Ida Bell’s House and offers captivating work from eight artists: Amanda Breitbach, Emily Daye, Leah Floyd, Kevin B Jones, Kristi Cavett Jones, Ross Lynn, Robert Trudeau, and Leonard Service.
